The Plot Thickens…

This week our Fairytale study explored to element of Plot. We learned that the story can also be called the plot and that the plot explains the main ideas of the story. We learned how to do a “Stop and Draw” - a technique where students draw and\or use a few words to capture ideas from the story while listening to a Read Aloud to help them retell the story later. Then we used the Stop and Draw papers to make our own versions of the Fairytales. It was a lot of fun.

In Math this week we worked on telling time to the half hour. This concept can be difficult but the students worked very hard and by Thursday everyone was a pro at it!

We are also continuing our Nursery Rhymes unit and this week we worked on learning to sing some of them with the entire Kindergarten. First Grade and Kindergarteners worked on some songs together that we will be singing at the Fairytale Ball. This week the decision is due in for Fairytale Ball costume choice! I can’t wait to hear the final picks!!

In Science we are starting our work on the Liquids and Solids Unit which should be quite fun and interesting for the students. You can help them at home by asking a ot of questions about texture, ability of objects to sink or float, etc. Have fun with them!

Our biggest accomplishment was our Chinese New Year Celebration! We worked very hard on planning, painting, learning a dance, and performing it for some of our buddy classes and Special teachers. The students did a wonderful job! Gung Hey Fat Choy! (Happy New Year!) It is the year of the Dragon!
